Honing in further on the problem, I noticed that when the AirPort is in Bridge mode, the speed is consistent with what I'm seeing direct through the AT&T router, which one would assume. MY SPEED FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS CONNECTED TO AIRPORT EXTREME OVER ETHERNET MY AVERAGE NORMAL SPEED FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS,ĪND SPEED WHEN CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO THE AT&T ROUTER: If I plug the iMac directly into the AT&T router the speed jumps right back up to ~800Mbps. After a long two hour phone call with AT&T, we used a process of elimination to determine that the issue is with the AirPort. However, this last week or so I've seen a HUGE drop in performance. So, this setup has been working beautifully for 6+ months (the AirPort is only 9 months old) and I've been getting awesome internet speeds (over ethernet) of 800Mbps+ up and down, give or take a little depending on time of day. Unfortunately it's not possible to turn off DHCP on the AT&T router, but apparently the DMZ method gets around it. I *do not* want to use the AT&T router for any of that stuff. Just wanted to say that before anybody yells that I have 2 routers on one network, the AT&T router has been put into a pseudo modem mode – the AirPort is placed in the DMZ of the AT&T router to avoid double NAT and allow the AirPort to serve DHCP info, control the firewall, control ports, and of course provide AC WiFi. My connection is a AT&T Fiber Router (Pace 5268AC) > AirPort Extreme (latest version) > iMac 5K (connected by Gigabit Ethernet).
